1/10

A home for a prominent artist and their partner's clinical practice, the project is envisioned as a traditional "enfilade," running through three, generously proportioned rooms and a series of adjoining private spaces.

The project provides a formal symmetry, unusual for a loft setting, that is made informal via a series of double doors running between the bedrooms and living areas. As such what at first appears a "classic six" style apartment plan can readily be converted into an open loft plan.

And for what? The views. The apartment is a floor-through unit, situated along the shoreline of Red Hook. Each room of the apartment serves as a frame for the next, ultimately framing a commanding view over the East River (and the Statue of Liberty), and on the opposite end, over Brooklyn.
